Review For The Sanyo Model RX1 Relaxation Chair Recliner
There are some new advancements in recliners. One such advancement is the zero gravity position. Companies like Sanyo are now offering their model RX-1 which comes with a motorized recline and an automatic zero gravity position. Sanyo has also integrated an air compression massage system into the RX-1 recliner.
A new marketing term being used for recliners is zero gravity. But what is zero gravity? This is a position used by NASA for launching astronauts into space. NASA found that by reclining the astronauts back they were able to better distribute the weight of their bodies across the surface area of their backs. Now many recliner manufacturers are adding zero gravity positions to their chairs.
The RX1 by Sanyo is the first such recliner to be released by them. It comes with a built-in remote control. The remote control is located underneath the right armrest.
There are a number of features which can be activated by the remote control. You can adjust the angle of the chair back or the leg rest. The leg rest and the chair back both have motor. They can be operated independently.
The look of the chair is rather industrial. It does not seem to be very refined and looks a bit mundane and boring. I was hoping for more of an eye-catching design for the money. One part of design that seemed overlooked was exposing the metal frame below the side panels. This just seems to be an oversight on the part of Sanyo.
One of the main features of the remote control is a zero gravity position button. With the touch of a button you can go to a preprogrammed zero gravity position. Normally, I like features like this but the zero gravity angle which was preprogrammed was not very comfortable for me.
One novel feature in this recliner is the air compression massage system. This recliner comes with an air pump that distributes air out to seven different airbags. The airbags are located throughout the chair to provide compression massage to different parts of the body.
You’ll find that there are two air massage programs available in this recliner. One program is called relax in the other is called stretch. The difference between the two seems to be one is firm and the other is more gentle.
This recliner is covered in leather upholstery. In addition to adjusting the chair back and the leg rest, there are also other adjustments for the head and neck. A pillow is provided to support the neck. The top of the chair has a headrest which can be angled outward to better support the head.
Unfortunately, one of the things I do not like about this recliner was its preprogrammed zero gravity position. I did not find this position to be anything special. In fact, I changed the angle of the chair manually to find a more comfortable position for me.
I like the fact that I could adjust the chair back in the leg rest independently. I did not find the automatic zero gravity position to be very comfortable. Supposedly it is a therapeutic position but not one that is actually comfortable.
There is a home reset button. This is a nice feature in that it allows you to reset the chair to its normal position. Just select the home button and the chair back will raise up while simultaneously lowering the leg rest.
I was a little bit disappointed with the Sanyo RX-1 recliner. It certainly is not a cheap recliner and for the price I felt that some aspects of the design were not well thought out. Exposing the metal frame underneath the side panel is a little strange at best. The preprogrammed zero gravity position was not very comfortable and that is the whole point of this recliner. I think the Sanyo RX-1 is a good attempt but certainly is too pricey for the types of features it contains.
